How to warm milk: here are the simplest methods

Come riscaldare il latte: ecco i metodi più semplici

Today we'll unravel the mystery of mysteries. Today we'll answer the question of questions, the elusive million-dollar question. How do you warm milk? Jokes aside, it may seem trivial, but learning the basic techniques for properly warming milk can improve your life. And the lives of your little ones, if you have one. Let's find out how.

Boil milk: saucepan or microwave

To boil milk in a saucepan, make sure it's deep. This will give the milk enough room to bubble and rise to the top. Keep an eye on it and stir it every couple of minutes to prevent it from boiling over. Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat to prevent it from burning. It's generally best to keep the heat on medium throughout.

If you're using the milk to make cheese or yogurt, heat it over low or medium heat for about forty minutes, stirring every three minutes. When bubbles form and steam begins to escape, you'll know the milk is about to boil.

If you prefer to reheat it more conveniently in the microwave, pour 250 ml into a mug. It should reach room temperature in less than a minute and boil after two minutes. It may seem like a breeze because the microwave seems to do everything for you: in reality, you should stir it every 15 seconds to prevent it from boiling over. And this doesn't work if you reduce the microwave's power to half.

Bain-marie

If you have stoves that do not allow you to control the power of the flame, you can use The double boiler method . You should already be familiar with the procedure: pour four centimeters of water into a saucepan and bring it to a simmer over low heat. Take a bowl and place it in the saucepan, making sure it doesn't touch the water (at least three centimeters away). Keep the heat on low, pour the milk into the bowl, and wait until bubbles form around the edges and a little steam rises. Remember to stir frequently. This method will heat the milk more slowly and evenly.

Warming milk for a baby

Keep in mind that baby milk (bottle or breast) shouldn't be too hot, for two reasons: it could scald the baby or degrade its nutritional value. You'll need to immerse the bottle in a bowl of hot water, away from the stove. If the water cools, replace it. Don't put the bottle in the microwave or on the stove. Doing so will deprive you of parenthood. In both cases, the milk doesn't heat evenly, and placing a plastic bottle in direct contact with heat... you get the idea.
